Opening of The New Petrol Station on Bridge Road

Around 1967 - 1969, the new garage + Fina petrol station on Bridge Road (demolished in 1999) was officially opened by an elephant - promotions at the time involved matching 2 halves of a lucky dip ticket to win the prize - my friend and I had half a winning ticket each and won a bottle of washing up liquid which we fought over, as we both wanted to give it to our Mum!

I remember watching the elephant being led across Bridge Road at the end of the event, maybe it was going to a nearby vehicle, or even walking to the Zoo
