Toby Jug Tolworth
On 26 February 2002 the demolition of the Toby Jug Pub at the Tolworth roundabout signalled the end of a landmark recognised by many. The site was owned by Tesco at the time and it was reported in the local paper that it was being demolished on safety grounds. The pub site and the neighbouring Government Offices site were subject of a long local debate about the best future use of such a large prime site, and local people were opposed to the idea of having a large supermarket chain owning the site. However Tesco was reported as hinting that its planning application would include housing and other types of buildings
In 2004 local press reports said that the planning included a bridge complete with trees, linking the Broadway with the site
